Newsom Releases Tax Returns Showing Annual Income of Up to $2 Million

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, earned between $1.7 million and $2 million annually from 2022 through 2024, according to tax returns released by the governor’s office. The filings also show the couple paid roughly $500,000 each year in combined federal and state income taxes.

According to an Associated Press report, the governor’s office made more than 700 pages of tax documents available for review, providing a detailed look at the couple’s finances as Newsom enters the final phase of his term and is widely viewed as a potential candidate in the 2028 U.S. presidential election. The office said the couple’s 2025 tax return has not yet been released because they requested a filing extension until October.

The tax filings indicate that the Newsoms’ income has remained relatively stable since Gavin Newsom became governor in 2019. The exception was 2021, when the family reported significantly higher earnings after selling a home in Marin County for nearly $6 million, resulting in approximately $800,000 in profit.

The documents show that most of Newsom’s income comes from his wine and restaurant businesses, which are held in a blind trust, rather than from his gubernatorial salary, which is about $200,000 per year. The returns also show the couple donated $40,000 to $65,000 annually to charitable causes and spent up to $44,000 a year on childcare.

The release of the tax returns comes as federal authorities continue reviewing aspects of the couple’s finances. Newsom has repeatedly described the investigation as politically motivated and has denied any wrongdoing.
