Woman Dies After Apparent Gas Exposure in Rancho Cordova Apartment; 5-Year-Old Child Hospitalized

RANCHO CORDOVA, Sacramento. — A woman died after an apparent gas exposure inside a Rancho Cordova apartment, while a 5-year-old child was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation, authorities said.

According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Sac Metro Fire), emergency crews responded to a residential complex after receiving a request to check on the well-being of residents. When firefighters entered the apartment, they found a woman unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A 5-year-old child who was also inside the apartment was transported to a hospital for medical care. Officials have not released additional details about the child’s condition.

Fire officials said preliminary information indicates the incident may have been related to a gas leak or exposure from a gas-powered appliance inside the home. However, the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation, and authorities said further details will be released after the investigation is completed.

The Rancho Cordova Police Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim or additional information about her relationship to the child.

Safety officials are reminding residents to leave immediately if they smell gas, avoid turning electrical devices on or off, and contact emergency services or their local gas provider for assistance.
